Ford Ups the Offroading Ante with the 2023 F-150 Raptor

Featuring extra-wide fenders and oversized 35-inch tires, the 10-speed automatic transmission, paired with a twin-turbo 450-hp V-6 engine, the vehicle can handle most terrains. Its long-travel suspension absorbs many bumps, jumps, and other obstacles associated with off-roading at high speeds.

The model offers superior traction through a complex suspension system encompassing five-link rear coil springs and internal-bypass dampers. Its conventional tow ratings and maximum payload have increased to 8200 pounds and 1400 pounds, respectively.

The new F-150 Raptor R rally edition ups the ante with a highly responsive 5.2-liter V-8 Predator engine from the Mustang GT500. Custom-tuned dampers and stiffened front springs that accommodate the heavier weight complement the standard 37-inch tires. The tradeoff of the extra width and length is 15 mpg fuel economy in asphalt settings for the standard F-150 Raptor and 10 mpg for the F-150 Raptor R.
